Have you experienced a traumatic event that continued to have an impact on your mental health, physical health, and social life?
Have you lost a sense of safety and trust in others?
Do you relive or re-experience the trauma in the present?
Trauma is the emotional/psychological response to an extremely distressing experience or situation which triggers the fight, flight, or freeze response. It often creates a sense of fear or an extreme stress response that can have long lasting effects. Trauma can lead to common symptoms including flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, easily startled, avoiding triggers, extreme emotions, and feelings of guilt or shame. Trauma can change a person’s view of self, others, and the world. Common interventions for trauma treatment include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Exposure Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR therapy).
